“Downtown Owensboro: Turning A Vision Into Reality" led by Joe Berry and Fred Reeves with help from Barry Alberts, with City Vision Associates.
Downtown Owensboro has seen an unprecedented renaissance since 2009. The project began with a diverse coalition of civic and business leadership to develop a comprehensive redevelopment plan that invested over $90 million in public dollars in catalytic infrastructure projects. These projects included the expansion of the riverfront, the design and construction of a new state-of-the-art convention and events center, street and sidewalk improvements to encourage multi-modal transportation, and the creation of a form-based regulatory code for downtown construction.
Since its inception his project has resulted in nearly $500 million in private dollars, including new hotels, retail, restaurants, and office buildings. Dr. Fred Reeves and Joe Berry were successive Downtown Development Directors from 2007-2014. In this session they will share how this ambitious project came to fruition, and continues to this day. They will share the story of how it all came together, including lessons learned and best practices for developing a vibrant and diverse urban core within your community. This session will earn you 3.0 AIA CEUs (HSW).
