During initial design discussions with the client the primary design focus was about creating a home that had the coziness and charm of a cottage. As the design unfolded, the house became more of a mix between a cottage and an English country estate home - particularly as the house grew in scope. The goal became to combine the best qualities of each archetype: the presence, stability, and elegance of a country estate home with the intimacy and character of a cottage - all while satisfying the basic tenets of functionality for an active family. The result exemplifies the care and detail afforded to each space of the house, with emphasis on creating warm, inviting rooms filled with natural light and covered with quality materials and surfaces.
