​The architect and the builder are Ambassadors for the Living Building Challenge, Safi is a Certified Passive House Consultant and both have dedicated countless hours mastering Green Building and design strategies.

UberGreen Spaces & Homes, the builder and owner, planned to construct an exemplary home in Norton Commons that would serve as a model for future work there and elsewhere.

We want to show that a zero energy, healthy home can appear to belong in context yet be modern in style and unmatched in performance.

​We also want to show that a home on a shotgun lot in a densely populated neighborhood can have an abundance of natural light, maximize the use of multiple levels and feel spacious while being right-sized for multi-generational living.

​More broadly, the house proves that net zero can be cost effective and is possible in Kentucky.

A unique challenge in the project was placing a home based on advanced technologies in an architecturally traditional setting. The architect and builder successfully worked within the development’s Plan Book and found creative alternatives to approved products and materials to achieve higher performance.

Persistence, understanding the requirements and finding ways to meet the architect’s and builder’s goals while respecting the developer’s was hard work, but led to a successful and beautiful result for everyone
